Branding: Identity Design + The Client Is Not Your Enemy featuring Chris Do

Branding: Identity Design + The Client Is Not Your Enemy featuring Chris Do

Description:
Branding: Identity Design
Branding and logos are buzzwords in our industry, but many of us have a nebulous understanding of their benefits. After all, has a logo ever impacted a company’s bottom line? What is branding and why is it valuable to our clients? In this talk, I will define what branding is, what a brand is defined by, what design decisions should be informed by, and the process that I use to rebrand an identity system. I will then show you a real life case study where I translate those factors into a visual representation of the company, and how to streamline the process while maintaining client satisfaction.

The Client Is Not Your Enemy
The client-designer relationship is a complex one. It can be incredibly rewarding, or frustrating beyond belief. How many times have we accused clients of having bad taste, not listening to the expert, and ruining the work? Too often, we are on opposing sides, instead of working towards a common goal. In this talk about the creative side of business, we’ll discuss how to improve client satisfaction by first empathizing with them, defining a goal before we begin work, addressing their needs when they’re telling us about their wants, and what you need to know about selling to your client.

Freelancing 101
Freelancing is one of the most popular topics among recent graduates. That’s no surprise, since freelancing is a great opportunity to build professional relationships. Unfortunately, many enter the field without the knowledge to avoid fatal mistakes. This talk will go over common industry terms, business protocols, how to maintain a good relationship with your employer, how to increase your rate, and when it might be a good idea to transition from being a freelancer to solopreneur.
